Tesla Cybertruck is one of the most anticipated launches in the global automotive market. First unveiled as a concept prototype in 2019, the all-electric pickup truck has finally been launched in the USA recently. Let us look at some of the top highlights from this unorthodox-looking electric pickup truck.

Tesla Cybertruck: Prices and rivals

Prices for the Cybertruck start from USD 79,990 (approx. Rs 66 lakh) and go up to Rs 99,990 (approx. Rs 83 lakh) which makes it around 50-60% more expensive than what CEO Elon Musk had claimed back in 2019. This is because the American EV manufacturer has only launched the twin- and tri-motor variants of Cybertruck now.

The entry-level single-motor variant is not expected to make its debut before fall of 2025 which will be priced at USD 60,990 (approx. Rs 51 lakh). The Cybertruck rivals other all-electric pickup trucks like Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV.

Tesla Cybertruck: Production & deliveries

During the launch event, only 10 units of the Cybertruck were delivered to buyers. Full scale production of the battery-powered pickup truck will only commence from early 2024 at the company’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. Deliveries for the mid-spec all-wheel drive and the top-spec ‘Cyberbeast’ variant will start in 2024. As far as India launch is concerned, we don’t expect the Cybertruck to launch here before 2025, that too, as a fully imported CBU model.

Tesla Cybertruck: Dimensions

Images don’t justify the enormous propositions of the Cybertruck. It measures 5,669mm long, 2,030mm wide, and 1,791mm tall at its standard suspension setting. It weighs easily over 3 tonnes and has a payload capacity of almost 5 tonnes. Ground clearance can be extended to a towering 443mm.

Tesla Cybertruck is said to be capable of withstanding .45-calibre bullets, thanks to its stainless steel construction. The company also claims that it also allows the Cybertruck to have “more torsional stiffness than a McLaren P1”.

Tesla Cybertruck: Powertrain specs

The performance of Cybertruck can put many ICE supercars to shame. Evidence of the same can be viewed in the video below shared by Tesla CEO– Elon Musk– on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. While Tesla hasn’ yet revealed exact motor and battery specs, the EV brand has shared range and performance figures of the all-electric pickup truck.

The mid-spec AWD variant comes with a twin-motor setup which can clock a top speed of 180 kmph while 0 to 100 kmph sprint can be done in around 4.1 seconds. This variant offers an estimated peak range of 547 km which can be extended to around 760 km using a range extender.

The top-spec Cyberbeast variant comes with a tri-motor setup with each rear wheel powered by an individual motor. This variant can clock a top speed of 209 kmph while 0 to 100 kmph can be achieved in around 2.6 seconds. Estimated peak range stands at 515 km which can be extended up to over 708 km using a range extender.

Tesla Cybertruck: Features

As for features, Cybertruck gets a 4×6 feet loading bed at the back, and rides on 35-inch tyres. Other novelties include a steer-by-wire system as standard, four-wheel steering, power-opening frunk, a massive 18.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display in the centre and a second 9.4-inch screen for the rear passengers.
