Skoda has marked an important milestone by registering a cumulative sales of 1 lakh units in the last two years. This also coincides with Skoda’s revamped India 2.0 project centred around the Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 IN architecture, developed specifically for the Indian market.
Under the India 2.0 programme, the Czech carmaker launched two cars– Kushaq and Slavia. Besides both these models, Skoda also sells Kodiaq— a premium D-segment SUV which comes as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) model in India.
Skoda recorded 2022 as best year
Through a press release, the company stated 2022 was a record-breaking one for Škoda Auto India, following the launches of the two India-centric models. This was followed by a slight drop the following year due to supply issues and related constraints. In 2022, the Czech carmaker registered a volume of 53,721 units, which was the company’s highest ever in India.
While working towards a full recovery, Škoda achieved sales of 48,755 units in the period from January 1 to December 31, 2023. During this period, Kodiaq also registered a jump of 100% in comparison to the previous year.
Speaking on the same, Petr Janeba, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India said, “It was extremely important for us to maintain our momentum through 2023 after the record-high of 2022. Our efforts in 2023 focussed on consolidating our position by continuous enhancements across our product range, widening our network and improving the quality in sales and after-sales for more satisfied customers, connected through our Human Touch philosophy to cater to all our customer’s needs.”
Over the last two years, Skoda also increased its footprint in India. From 120 touchpoints at the start of 2021, the Czech brand expanded to 260 touchpoints by the end of 2023. The company has also laid special emphasis on safety on the India 2.0 programme with both the Indian models scoring 5-star safety rating at Global NCAP crash tests last year.
Skoda has already started exporting cars from India to GCC and other right-hand drive markets. For 2024, products, parts, and components will play a huge part in Skoda’s entry into the Vietnam market.
