Japanese auto maker Suzuki Motor Corporation recently announced that the company manufactured over 3.30 million cars and SUVs in 2017 (Calendar year) globally at a grew by 12.12 per cent over 2016. After failing to cross 3 million mark in 2016 the company has posted its best ever sales figures for a calendar year ever. Suzuki manufactured a total of 3,302,336 units globally. Suzuki’s Indian subsidiary and India’s largest manufacturer of cars, Maruti Suzuki has accounted for over 52 per cent of Suzuki’s total sales. Maruti Suzuki overall manufactured over 1.72 million vehicles for Suzuki and also commands a massive 49.6 per cent domestic market share in India.

Overall for Suzuki Motor Corporation, its overseas production volume became the highest ever all time mainly owing to record-high in India. Suzuki has many manufacturing units worldwide and in India apart from two plants of Maruti Suzuki in Gurgaon and Manesar from where the major chunk of vehicles are manufactured, Suzuki also recently started a new car manufacturing units in Gujarat. By the end of this financial year, Suzuki is expected to roll out about 1.5 lakh units. Maruti Suzuki Baleno along with the new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift is currently made in Gujarat. Plant capacity at Maruti Suzuki’s plants in Haryana has a capacity to roll out 1.5 million units.

Maruti Suzuki in India sold a total of 1602522 units in 2017 reporting a double digit growth. The company sold 3 cars ever minute selling 4,390 cars every single day in 2017. The company will is also working towards electric mobility and development of Maruti’s first electric car is being done.
Keeping government’s vision in mind, R C Bhargava had earlier said, “Maruti Suzuki will make electric cars, I cannot confirm the time lines but we will get electric cars and will remain the leader on the electric front as well, we have to move to electric and we will move to electric, in the meanwhile we would want the non-electric cars to be hybrid cars”.

From India, Suzuki and Maruti Suzuki also exports to over 125 countries. In the ongoing financial year the company has already exported over 1.02 lakh units. In its domestic sales, top-5 cars sold in India are all manufactured by Maruti Suzuki and in the UV space too Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza continued to dominate the top spot despite being available only in diesel version.
In 2017, Maruti Suzuki’s shares crossed the value of Rs 10,000 for the first time and is also currently the most valued automobile stock in the world after Tesla.
