MG Motor is planning to expand big time in India now that it has entered into a partnership with Jindal Steel Works (JSW). It has two big launches lined up for 2024 in the form of the all-new Windsor EV and the facelifted Gloster. The Chinese-owned British carmaker has also been active in international markets.
The company teased the facelifted ZS in Spain recently. The compact SUV, which is sold as Astor in India, will be given a proper facelift soon in Spain. The Spanish social media handle of MG Motor has teased a facelifted iteration of Astor. In its latest avatar, the Astor has gained an electrified powertrain.
2025 MG Astor facelift: What’s new?
Called ZS HEV, the new MG Astor will be available with a strong hybrid powertrain. The self-charging hybrid propulsion system (HEV) comprises an Atkinson cycle petrol engine and an electric motor which draws energy from a 1.83 kWh NCM lithium-ion. Like all strong hybrids, the new ZS HEV can run on pure electric mode for limited periods. It gets a front-wheel driven setup paired with a unique 3-speed automatic transmission.
The same setup is offered in the MG3 hatchback. Besides the new hybrid powertrain, MG is said to have fine-tuned the chassis. MG is expected to introduce updates that make the hybrid variant more agile, more reliable and safer than the existing model.
The 2025 MG Astor also gets quite a few styling upgrades over the existing model in Spain. For starters, it gets an all-new blacked-out mesh grille up front flanked by redesigned LED headlights which give the car a new face. Further, the bumper gets reprofiled housing new air intakes. Its silhouette and side profile remains unchanged but gets new alloy wheels. At the rear, the 2025 Astor gets new taillights and revised bumper.
2025 MG Astor facelift: Will it come to India?
With MG launching the updated ZS in Spain soon, we can expect the carmaker to bring the Astor facelift to India in the coming months, although we can’t confirm a specific timeline for the same. The Astor was launched in India in late 2021 and is due for a mid-cycle facelift soon. Given the affinity and push for hybrid vehicles in recent times, the Astor Hybrid could be a worthy SUV to consider.
