The great Indian SUV showdown: Mahindra vs Tata
In the past two months, starting from September 2024, Mahindra has experienced impressive growth. In September, the company surpassed the 50,000-unit mark, recording 51,062 vehicles sold, which represents a year-on-year growth of 23.7 per cent. This achievement propelled Mahindra to become the third most successful automobile manufacturer in the Indian market, surpassing Tata Motors by under 10,000 units. Mahindra almost overtook Hyundai, India’s second-largest carmaker, but fell short by just 39 units.
Meanwhile, Tata Motors faced challenges in September, selling 41,065 vehicles, which marked an 8.4 per cent year-on-year decline compared to 44,810 units in October 2023.
October brought a slight improvement for Tata Motors, with total passenger vehicle sales reaching 48,423 units, nearly on par with last year’s total of 48,637 vehicles. The gap between Mahindra and Tata Motors, which was 9,997 units in September, has now narrowed to 5,631 units.
