Like most legacy carmakers, Kia has also drafted big plans to incorporate more electric vehicles into its lineup in the coming years. With models like the EV5, EV6, and EV9 already in its lineup, the Korean carmaker will add more battery firepower to its arsenal in the coming years, a glimpse of which can be seen in the upcoming Kia EV Day.
Kia will showcase three upcoming battery-powered models on 27 February 2025 at Tarraco Arena in Tarragona, Spain. The second edition of Kia EV Day will focus on models underpinned by the Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) architecture which will also be showcased at the event.
Kia EV4
Ahead of their global unveils, Kia has also released a teaser video of the same on its YouTube channel revealing glimpses of the upcoming three electric SUVs. The biggest highlight will be the debut of the production-spec Kia EV4. To be underpinned by an updated version of the e-GMP architecture of the Hyundai Motor Group, the EV4 is most likely to be a coupe derivative of the EV3, as revealed in the teaser, which made its global debut last year.
The EV4 is likely to borrow most of its specifications and features from the EV3. It is expected to come with two battery options: 58.3 kWh and 81.4 kWh, with both single-motor and dual-motor, all-wheel drive variants on offer.
Kia Concept EV2
Kia will also unveil the Concept EV2, a pre-production concept prototype of its upcoming entry-level EV. Based on the same Opposites United design philosophy as the rest of Kia’s EV lineup, in its final production form the EV2 could take the shape of an all-electric equivalent of the Syros.
Test mules of the EV2 have been spotted on some occasions in South Korea. It was reported a few months ago that Kia is developing a fully-electric derivative of its latest sub-4 metre SUV offering. Incidentally, the Syros looks like a shrunken EV9 with a split vertically laid out LED lighting signature, thus adhering to Kia’s design philosophy.
Kia PV5
The first model to be showcased as part of the PBV strategy will be the PV5, a fully-electric van. The PV5 will offer a neo-retro design with a boxy profile and unconventional lighting elements which give the vehicle a futuristic appeal, similar to Volkswagen ID. Buzz. The teaser reveals thin vertically mounted rectangular LED taillamps and unique S-shaped LED headlights. This vehicle is unlikely to launch in India anytime in the foreseeable future.
