In a major development, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has announced a new yearly pass for Fastags. This development has been confirmed by Nitin Gadkari, through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
In his latest X post, Gadkari reveals that the FASTag-based Annual Pass will be priced Rs 3,000 and will come into effect from 15th August 2025. This yearly pass will be valid for one year from the date of activation or up to 200 trips, whichever comes first. This pass is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.
In his post, Gadkari claims that it will enable seamless and cost-effective travel across National Highways throughout the country. A dedicated link for activation and renewal will soon be made available on the Rajmarg Yatra App as well as on the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH.
However, there is no mention of a lifetime pass on FAStag as of now which was reported in February earlier this year. The lifetime plan, when introduced, would cost Rs 30,000 as a single payment, and the pass would remain valid for 15 years.
This policy tackles long-standing issues related to toll plazas situated within a 60 km radius and streamlines toll payments into a single, cost-effective transaction. The Annual Pass is designed to reduce wait times, alleviate congestion, and minimize disputes at toll booths, ensuring a quicker and more seamless travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners.
FASTag annual plan: How it works?
The annual plan is straightforward — users recharge their FASTags with Rs 3,000 and can access any National Highway or Expressway until the validity expires. These passes are integrated into the existing FASTag system, and once the validity ends, users simply recharge as usual. The lifetime plans follow a similar model.
At present, users can opt for monthly passes priced at Rs 340 per month, totaling Rs 4,080 annually, but these are valid for just one toll plaza. In contrast, the new annual plan offers significantly better value, allowing users unrestricted access to toll plazas across India at a lower overall cost.
