In July 2025, we saw Maruti Suzuki lead sales as usual in the four-wheeler segment. However, in the two-wheeler segment, Honda leads sales, dethroning Hero MotoCorp as the leader. One interesting aspect in the last few months was Mahindra, which was consistently able to outsell Hyundai to keep its position as the second-best auto seller.
August 2025 auto sales
The big question for last month’s sales is, has Mahindra kept its position, or has it lost to Hyundai in August 2025? The other big question also remains — Has Hero MotoCorp retained its crown in the two-wheeler segment? All the details will soon follow.
Looking at a quick recap, Maruti Suzuki was the best-selling four-wheeler brand in July 2025, having sold over 1.37 lakh units, witnessing flat sales. Mahindra was second, with almost 20 percent YoY growth, with Hyundai in third, having witnessed a 10 percent decline in sales.
Tata Motors and Toyota rounded up the list of top 5 carmakers, with the former witnessing an 11 percent sales decline, while Toyota saw a marginal decline in YoY sales.

Hero was not too far away, registering sales of over 4.12 lakh units, and also witnessing a 19 percent growth over July 2024. For Honda, the Activa remains the best-seller, while for Hero MotoCorp, the Splendor is the leader.
TVS, Bajaj, and Suzuki completed the top five, while the Hosur-based manufacturer, TVS, saw a massive 21 percent YoY growth. Bajaj’s sales took a 17 percent hit, which is expected to continue in August as well, owing to the availability of rare earth elements, that has affected EV production.
Suzuki registered sales of 96,000 units in July 2025, witnessing a 4 percent YoY decline. The trend is likely to continue in August, especially for EV makers such as Ather Energy, Bajaj, TVS, and Hero. Some new launches are also expected to help boost sales of some OEMs in August.
