The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is arguably one of the best looking vehicle in the entry-level luxury sedan segment. It gets a decently proportioned kidney grille at the front and is flanked by smart looking LED headlamps with LED DRLs. Since it is a coupé, you get a sloping roofline at the back, which seamlessly merges into the tail section. The 18-inch alloy wheels fill up the wheel arches nicely. The rear of the car is dominated by sweeping tail lamps.
The interior of the sedan comes with a dual-tone dashboard that has a very elegant design. Soft-touch materials add a sense of high quality to it. The front seats provide ample cushioning and support. There are enough storage spaces around to keep one’s belongings. BMW has also equipped the car with ambient lighting. The rear seats offer good legroom and plenty of cushioning. The high transmission tunnel makes the back seat ideal for only two occupants. You get a 10.25-inch digital MID with BMW Live Cockpit Professional and there is a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit too.
BMW is offering the 2 Series Gran Coupé with a twin-turbo petrol and diesel engine. The 2.0-litre petrol engine makes 190hp and 280Nm of max torque. The equally big diesel engine produces the same 190hp but spits out 400Nm of torque. The diesel-powered 2 Series Gran Coupé can reach 100kmph from a standstill in 7.5 seconds while the petrol variant can do the same in 7.1 seconds.
The petrol-powered versions of the 2 Series Gran Coupé come with a 7-speed Steptronic Sport dual-clutch automatic transmission. The diesel engine gets an 8-speed Steptronic instead. You can get the vehicle with paddle shifts for better control over the shifts and power is sent to the front wheels only.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé offers a wide variety of active and passive safety technologies including six airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, ARB technology (actuator contiguous wheel slip limitation system), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), electric parking brake with auto hold, side-impact protection, electronic vehicle immobilizer & crash sensors and ISOFIX child seat mounting.
BMW claims that the petrol powered variants of the new 2 Series Gran Coupé can deliver a mileage of 14.82kmpl. The diesel powered versions, on the other hand are more frugal and yield a mileage of 18.64kmpl. These are decent figures considering the amount of power the 2 Series has on offer.
