What comes to mind when you think of Ford Mustang – Pan American Highway? Bullit? Steve McQueen? But most of all you'd think of the roaring engine, that classic and iconic muscle car rumble. Now, I must bring your wind-in-the-hair daydream to a screeching stop. This one sounds more like something from a Tesla catalog.

British startup Charge Cars have unveiled a Ford Mustang that is old on the outside but heckin' with-the-times on the inside. Instead of a six- or eight-cylinder V8, Charge Cars' Mustang is powered by electric motors fed by a 64-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.
-
It gets an all-wheel-drive drivetrain sending about 1200 Nm of torque to all four wheels which gives it the capability to do 0-100 km/h in four seconds. The 1960 model Ford Mustang wasn't a slouch but it isn't as quick as this either.

The battery pack allows the electric Ford Mustang about 320 km between charges and it is compatible with 50-kilowatt DC fast charging. Electrification has also improved its handling since the battery pack lowers its centre of gravity.

The car we see in the pictures is only one way to electro-mod the Mustang in Charge Cars books. Buyers can work directly with the firm to have their pony car modded the way they want to. Photos of the interior aren't available yet, but we're expecting similar handicraft on the inside.

Charge Cars will only be producing 499 examples of electric Ford Mustangs, available on a first-come-first-served basis. Prices start at GBP 300,000 (approximately Rs 2.6 crore). Yep, that is hefty considering that sort of money will get you a Rolls-Royce. Deliveries will begin in September this year.
