Automobile manufacturers are gearing up to cash in on the forthcoming festive season with the launch of new vehicles featuring diverse powertrains. Here’s an overview of the cars to keep an eye on in September, including EVs and SUVs.
Tata Curvv ICE
Tata Motors is set to make its debut in the mid-size segment with the Curvv, featuring an internal combustion engine. The company has announced that the Curvv will come with both petrol and diesel engine options. This new coupe SUV will provide two turbocharged petrol engines: the existing 1.2-litre found in the Nexon and a brand-new 1.2-litre TGDi turbo.
Additionally, it will be equipped with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both the 6-speed manual and the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions will be standard across all engine types. Notably, the pairing of the DCT with the diesel engine marks a first for a mass-market vehicle in India. The launch of the Curvv is scheduled for September 2.
Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV
Mercedes-Benz will launch its flagship EV SUV, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, which broke cover in China last year. The Indian market will get the top-of-the-line 680 version. It will be powered by 108.4 kWh with twin motors on each axle and has an output of 658 bhp and 950 Nm of torque. According to Mercedes-Benz, the EQS SUV offers a range of around 600 km. To up the game, the rear passenger seat gets two 11.6-inch displays and an MBUX tablet for the controls. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV will be launched on September 5.
Hyundai Alcazar
Hyundai will launch the facelift Alcazar on September 9. The three-two row SUV will receive a slew of design upgrades inspired by the Creta. The cabin will be completely revamped and it will sport dual 10.25-inch screens, and new seats, the 6-seater version offers ventilated seats for both first and second rows. The 2024 Alcazar will get Level 2 ADAS. In terms of engine options, the Alcazar will offer the 1.5-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel. The former gets either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch while the latter has a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
MG Windsor EV
JSW MG is set to launch its third electric vehicle, anticipated to fit between the Comet EV and the ZS EV. This crossover will feature a glass roof, automatic LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, an electric tailgate, and disc brakes on all wheels. Inside, it boasts a 15.6-inch infotainment system, a 360-degree camera, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and a 4-way adjustable powered front passenger seat.
Additionally, it includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the rear bench offers a sofa-like feature with a 135-degree recline. Powering the Windsor is a 50.3 kWh battery, expected to deliver a range of about 460 km. It’s equipped with a single motor on the front axle, producing 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque
