Tesla India opens doors today, and the first showroom has been set up in Mumbai’s Maker Maxity Mall, BKC. The carmaker’s operations come after years of speculations, cancellations, and controversy. Tesla is expected to follow up with more stores in India, most probably in Delhi, following the Mumbai store.
At the moment, Tesla will be importing vehicles, and they will be sold as CBUs. While this will be the way of sales for now, Tesla has been tight-lipped about its plans on manufacturing locally. The inauguration of the first Tesla showroom will coincide with the launch of Musk’s Starlink Wireless Services, which recently received approval in India.

Tesla will be offering its Full Self Driving services in India with the Model Y. The FSD in India could cost around Rs 6 lakh as a one-time purchase, or be available via a monthly subscription. More details are expected soon.

Now, coming back to the car on sale. The Tesla Model Y will be the first model on sale in the country, and will be sold in two versions — RWD and AWD. The former carries a price of Rs 59.89 lakh and the AWD version will cost Rs 61 lakh.
