Tata Motors has taken advantage of exploring alternate fuel vehicles and the Nexon’s platform has done wonders with it being flexible to house internal combustion engines and electric powertrains. Now, with the market opening up to CNG vehicles, Tata is exploring the option with the Nexon again, showcasing the Nexon CNG concept at the Bharat Mobility Show that begins today.
Tata Nexon CNG – Design
The Nexon CNG concept will be based on the facelifted version of the Nexon that was launched late last year. The Nexon underwent a radical design change with the ICE and EV versions getting their own unique identity. The Nexon features redesigned headlights, grille, tail lamps, and much more, giving the sub-4 metre SUV a sporty look.
The interior has also seen major updates to the dash, air vents, steering, infotainment system and much more. Tata has done away with all the physical buttons and has chosen to with touch enable ones, giving the interior also a clean look. That said, for the CNG version, Tata will go with the tried and tested dual CNG tanks placed in the boot, similar to the other models.
Tata Nexon CNG – Engine specifications
Since the Nexon CNG is based on the ICE version of the Nexon, the engine will be the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. In its petrol form, the Nexon makes 118bhp and 170Nm of torque, mated to a manual, AMT, or DCT gearbox. The CNG version will make slightly less power.
Tata Motors, unlike most carmakers in India, offers CNG versions of its cars in various trim levels, as the company does not want customers to sacrifice comfort and convenience when choosing CNG vehicles. The trim levels will be revealed closer to its launch and when launched, the Nexon will be the only vehicle in India to be offered with a host of engine and gearbox options — petrol, diesel, electric, manual, AMT, and DCT.
