Skoda announced the launch of a new sub-4 metre SUV in India earlier in February this year. A couple of weeks back, a prototype of the SUV was spotted testing on Indian roads in a fully camouflaged avatar. A test unit of the same has been spied once again, giving out some more details about the upcoming crossover.

Going by the latest spy shots, the rear end of the vehicle appears to give a contemporary Skoda look featuring a sculpted tailgate and stubby LED taillamp cluster. The receding roofline gives it a crossover-like appeal. However, there are several signs of cost cutting visible. For instance, it doesn’t get a shark-fin antenna, or a rear wiper or defogger.
Moving to the side, one can notice the 16-inch steel wheels wearing black caps and shod with MRF rubbers. It could very well be the case of this prototype being a lower-spec variant. Even the window line looks very much like a Skoda. Other visual details include a spoiler-mounted brake light, and non-functional roof rails.
The spy video also reveals a fair glimpse of the car’s front fascia featuring a split lighting setup with sleek LED DRLs on top and the headlamp cluster below. The highlight is the updated Skoda butterfly grille with vertical slats. The grille is underlined by a large air vent with blacked-out honeycomb mesh internals.
While the Czech carmaker is yet to decide on a name, it has asked Indian audiences to choose from the following options— Kylaq, Kariq, Kyroq, Kymaq, and Kwiq. Each name is accompanied by a unique tagline highlighting its distinct characteristics. It will be based on the same MQB A0 IN architecture as Kushaq and Slavia, therefore we can expect high levels of localisation.
Powering the upcoming Skoda sub-4 metre SUV will be a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 114 bhp and 178 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be carried out either by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
