Skoda announced the name of its first sub-4 metre SUV, the Kylaq. A new spy video of the SUV reveals important features that can be expected. Sharing the MQB-A0-IN platform with the Kushaq and the Slavia, the Kylaq is set to enter one of the market’s most competitive segments. It will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra 3X0, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and several others. Here is what we have learned about the new Kylaq so far.
Skoda Kylaq: What’s new?
Based on the latest spy video, the new Kylaq will sport a single-panel sunroof and alloy wheels, which is expected to be only on the top models. It also comes with roof rails and a shark fin antenna. Even though the SUV was camouflaged, the rear has prominent character lines and a tailgate, which also houses the number plate. The tail lamps will be L-shaped LED lights but might not get a connected light like the Hyundai Venue. The spy video also revealed that the Kylaq will be available in either a red or an orange paint scheme.Â
Skoda previously confirmed that the Kylaq will feature a split headlight design with LED daytime running lights and will possess a front grille akin to the Kushaq, albeit with some minor modifications.
With safety being paramount, the new Skoda compact SUV is expected to earn top honours in Global NCAP crash ratings. The Kylaq could also be equipped with ADAS safety functions.
Skoda Kylaq: When will it break cover?
The Kylaq is anticipated to have its global unveiling at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. Reports suggest that production may commence by the end of this year, with the SUV expected to hit showrooms in February 2025.
Skoda Kylaq: Engine Specs
The Kylaq will be the third model based on the MQB-A0-IN platform and will only offer one powertrain. It will get a 1-litre turbo petrol engine with an output of 114 bhp and 178 Nm. The engine will be paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter transmission.Â
