A leaked online document has revealed Stellantis’ upcoming plans, especially with the Jeep. As per the document, the carmaker plans to transition its vehicle portfolio to EVs, including the Wrangler, which will be called the J70. The new Jeep Wrangler will arrive in 2028 and will be available as an EV or as a plug-in hybrid, the latter of which will be different compared to the 4xe sold in select markets globally.
The Wrangler’s pickup sibling, the Gladiator, will also receive similar updates, however, the truck will be built in the Illinois factor – which will see an investment of $1.5 billion – instead of the current Toledo plant. There will be a new plant as well, to be built in Belvidere, which will see an investment of $3.2 billion.
The documents hint that the Dodge brand will also see an upgrade, with the Ram being the first vehicle to see the electric powertrain that will power the 2028 Wrangler. The Ram 1500 RVS claims a payload of 1,224kg and a towing capacity of 6,350kg, making it more capable compared to the Ford F-150.
The Ram will be offered with two battery pack choices, 168kWh and 229kWh options, which will have a range of 560km and 800km respectively. However, before this electric powertrain finds its way into the Wrangler, Jeep will unveil the all-electric Recon SUV, which will feature a monocoque construction and will be more road-biased.
