Maruti Fronx-based Toyota Taisor launch today: What to expect?

Maruti offers Fronx at prices between Rs 7.52 lakh and Rs 13.04 lakh (both ex-showroom). We expect Taisor to be priced slightly higher.

Toyota will be launching the Taisor today. It marks Toyota’s re-entry into the sub-4 metre SUV/crossover space after the Maruti Vitara Brezza-based Urban Cruiser was discontinued from the market in 2022. Like the Urban Cruiser, the Taisor will also be a re-engineered Maruti product.

The upcoming Toyota-branded subcompact crossover is based on Maruti Fronx and as per the latest teaser released by the Japanese carmaker, in all probability it will borrow most of its elements from its Maruti cousin. Here’s a quick look at what to expect from the rebadged Fronx.

Toyota Taisor: Expected exterior styling

The teaser released a couple of days ago reveals quite a few visual details about the Taisor. For instance, the front grille with honeycomb mesh grille looks directly lifted from the Fronx. So do the sleek LED DRLs, and bi-LED projector headlights flanking the front grille. Front and rear bumpers, the scoop on the bonnet, shape of the tailgate, and silhouette looks identical to the Fronx.

What looks slightly different are the taillights with a connected LED strip in the middle. We can expect Toyota to offer different alloy wheel designs. Overall, the Taisor will almost be an identical twin to Taisor.

Toyota Taisor: Expected interiors & features

Since it will be built by Maruti itself, Taisor is most likely to get the same interior layout and list of features as Fronx. This includes a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, head-up display, a 360-degree camera, connected tech, Arkamys music system and automatic climate control. Safety package of Taisor will include six airbags, ESP as standard and hill-hold assist control, all three-point seat belts, ISOFIX child seat mounts etc.

Toyota Taisor: Expected engine specs

Like Fronx, Taisor is expected to offer both the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and the 1-litre turbo petrol. The mainstay will be the 1.2-litre which produces 89 bhp and 113 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT. Based on the Fronx ARAI figures, the Taisor manual should return around 21.79 kmpl and the AMT 22.89 kmpl.

Those seeking for some more performance can opt for Tthe 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol unit. This mill churns out 99 bhp and 147.6 Nm and comes with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic torque converter with paddle shifters. The manual’s mileage should be in the region of 21.5 kmpl and the automatic 20.01 kmpl.
