The battle of the Mahindra Thars is heating up. Can the original Thar stand up to the all-new Thar Roxx? Beyond the apparent size difference, with the Thar Roxx being larger than its three-door counterpart, it offers more than just an updated design and increased dimensions. We explore the five key features that the original Thar lacks.

Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar 3 door: Crawl Smart Assist

This feature is a first in its segment and is extremely useful during hardcore off-roading. Initially, the Crawl Smart Assist feature is exclusive to the automatic variant. When engaged, the Thar Roxx maintains cruise control over difficult terrains at speeds ranging from 2.5 km/h to 30 km/h. It can be activated during steep ascents, operating similarly to cruise control, without requiring throttle input.

Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar 3 door: Intelli-turn

Intelli-turn is another first feature in this midsize SUV class. It reduces the turning radius on rough terrain by locking the inside rear wheel while taking a turn. The Intelli-turn for a period brief period of 15 seconds within 15 kmph. It does not function when the electronic locking differential is engaged.

Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar 3 door: Electronic Locking Differential

In contrast to the Scorpio N and the three-door Thar, the Mahindra Thar Roxx is equipped with an electronic locking differential. This feature allows for the transfer of power and torque to enhance traction and minimize wheel spin. Additionally, the Thar Roxx 4×4 version features Terrain Modes for Snow, Sand, and Mud.

Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar 3 door: Level 2 ADAS

The Thar Roxx elevates safety standards by incorporating Level 2 ADAS. It is equipped with an array of ten features, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist, among others. With this addition, the Thar Roxx joins the XUV700 and 3X0 as the third vehicle in Mahindra’s lineup to boast an ADAS suite.

Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Thar 3 door: New platform

The Thar Roxx is based on a tweaked Scorpio N platform, making it around 40 kilogrammes lighter than the three-door Thar. Mahindra has managed to achieve this by using light and high-strength steel materials. Another major development is that it has a 50:50 weight distribution. The Thar Roxx borrows the Scorpio N’s Penta Link suspension set up with Watts linkage.
