Datsun redi-GO 1.0 L launched in India; features, specifications, price

Datsun India is set to launch the redi-GO with a 1-litre engine today, for which bookings had already been opened at a minimum amount of Rs 10,000. Deliveries of customer cars are expected to begin immediately after launch. The new car is quite anticipated in the Indian car market, considering the success that it has been able to achieve since it was first launched about three years ago with an 800cc engine. A sub-brand of Nissan, Datsun was a prime contributor to its 39% increase in sales in May 2017 and it was the redi-GO that sold the most. The redi-GO is available in the market in various trims, along with a sport version that was launched recently. Datsun started out with the GO, GO+ and then finally the redi-GO. While it was a significant improvement from the previous two cars, a 1-litre engine option was sorely missed in the redi-GO. The brand is now poised to fill the gap with the new redi-GO launching today. Catch all the live updates from the launch event here:

It will have the same halogen headlamps and LED DRLs (daytime running lights) mounted on the bumper.

3:45 PM: The redi-GO 1.0 L will be available in two variants – S and T (O). The new car will have a new ‘1.0’ badge on the boot lid that will pretty much be the only bit that distinguishes it from the 0.8-litre car.

Datsun redi-GO 1.0 L review: Challenger to the Maruti Alto K10 and Renault Kwid but any better?

3:30 PM: The redi-GO sports the same look as the outgoing 0.8-litre model. It will retain the tall boy stance and the sculpted profile that features bold lines. The headlamps and the DRLs (daytime running lights) will be carried forward from the older version.

3:25 PM: Datsun redi-GO 1.0 L will be powered by a 1.0 litre, three-cylinder engine that makes 67 hp of power and 91 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Also, the unit will also come equipped with Intelligent Spark Automated Technology (iSAT) which will help with better fuel efficiency.

3:20 PM: The redi-GO 1.0 L will only be available in two variants – T(O) and the S. Ever since its launch, Datsun has been selling about 3000 units of the redi-GO every month. Once launched, the 1-litre redi-GO will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Renault Kwid 1L.

3:16 PM: The 1.0 L redi-GO will miss out on the touchscreen infotainment system, which is offered with its competitor – the Kwid 1L. The redi-GO will come with a regular music system with a CD player, AUX-In and USB.

3:11 PM: The suspension setting on the redi-GO 1.0L has been tweaked and is now more on the stiffer side, resulting in a slightly improved ride quality and an 185mm ground clearance also adds to comfort on rough surfaces.

3:07 PM: In May this year, Datsun announced a five-year care package that will cover all service, maintenance and labour costs for the redi-GO over a period of 5 years/50,000 km.

3:02 PM: The cabin will also be more or less the same as the 0.8-litre redi-GO, with some styling updates like the all-black interior, red accents on the seats, better upholstery, chrome finish on the aircon vents and the horn pad.

2:58 PM: On the outside, the new redi-GO is quite similar to the previous model and has carried forward the tall boy stance along with a sculpted profile that gives it a sporty appeal. It will also retain the halogen headlamps and bumper mounted LED DRLs (daytime running lights). One distinguishing bit will be a ‘1.0’ badge at the back.

2:54 PM: The redi-GO 1.0L will be heavier than the outgoing model. While Datsun has not made any changes to the suspension or chassis of the new car, it has been tuned in accordance with the increased weight, which has also helped in improving stability and handling. Also, the ground clearance has now been increased to 186 mm.

2:50 PM: The new engine option will improve the power figures, along with which the fuel efficiency will also see a considerable boost. The redi-GO’s fuel economy, as certified by ARAI, stands at 22.5 kmpl, which puts it almost on par with the Kwid 1L and a slightly behind the Alto K10.

2:45 PM: Datsun is expected to launch an AMT version of redi-GO 1.0L, similar to the Renault Kwid AMT but only at a later stage this year.

2:34 PM: The redi-GO will now be powered by a 1.0 litre, three-cylinder engine, the same that is used on the Kwid 1L. It will produce 67 hp and 91 Nm of torque, which is a significant increase compared to the outgoing 0.8-litre car. The engine will also be equipped with Intelligent Spark Automated Technology (iSAT) that will help it churn out improved mileage.

2:30 PM: Datsun launched the redi-GO last year with a 799cc petrol engine that produces 53 hp of power and 72 Nm of torque. It was instantly considered a fresh and peppy design with body coloured bumpers, chrome accents on the bumper, power steering and DRLs.

2:25 PM: On the inside, the cabin too is similar to the outgoing 0.8-litres redi-GO, however, there are some styling updates such as all-black interior, red accents on the seats, better upholstery, chrome finish on the aircon vents and the horn. But the 1.0 L redi-GO will miss out on the touchscreen infotainment system, which is offered with its competitor – the Kwid. The redi-GO will come with a regular music system with a CD player, AUX-In and USB.

2:20 PM: While the competition offers an automatic version of their car, such as the Kwid AMT, Datsun so far does not have plans to launch the redi-GO with an automated manual transmission. It will come with a five-speed manual transmission, same as the 0.8-litre redi-GO.

2:16 PM: The redi-GO 1.0 L will come in two variants – T(O) and the S. Ever since its launch, Datsun has been selling about 3000 units of the redi-GO every month. Once launched, the 1-litre redi-GO will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Renault Kwid 1L.

2:10 PM: In terms of looks, the redi-GO remains quite the same as the old one with a tall boy stance, a bit of sporty appeal with a sculpted profile. It will have the same halogen headlamps and LED DRLs (daytime running lights) mounted on the bumper. At the back, however, it gets one tiny addition of the ‘1.0’ badge, that will distinguish it from the 800cc car.

2:00 PM: In May this year, Datsun announced a five-year care package that will cover all service, maintenance and labour costs for the redi-GO over a period of 5 years/50,000 km.

1:52 PM: Not only will the new engine bring up the redi-GO’s power figures, fuel-efficiency as certified by ARAI, stands at 22.5 kmpl for the redi-GO 1.0 L. This puts the car almost at par with the Kwid 1 litre and a little behind the Alto K10.

1:45 PM: The new redi-GO will be heavier than the 800cc version. Datsun has not made any changes to the suspension or chassis of the redi-GO 1.0 L, the former has been tuned in accordance with the increased weight, which has also helped in improving stability and handling. Also, the ground clearance has now been increased to 186 mm.

1:38 PM: The company is expected to launch an AMT version of Datsun redi-GO, similar to the Renault Kwid AMT but only at a later stage this year.

1:30 PM: The most relevant upgrade is the engine. The redi-GO will be powered by a 1.0 litre, three-cylinder engine that comes equipped with an Intelligent Spark Automated Technology (iSAT) for higher fuel-efficiency. The unit produces 67 hp of power and 91 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
