Mercedes Benz has unmasked the upcoming sixth generation E-Class globally. Available in both standard and long wheelbase (LWB) versions, the luxury saloon has made its global debut in China. More importantly, Mercedes will be bringing the sixth-gen model of the E-Class to India, most probably towards the latter end of 2024.

Like the current E-Class, the new-gen model will also be solely available in the LWB format in the Indian market. It is most likely to be assembled in the country through Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits. Moreover, India is the only country to get the LWB right-hand drive layout of the E-Class.

2024 Mercedes Benz E-Class: Updates

The biggest update in the E-Class is growth in footprint. The new E-Class LWB measures 5,092 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,493 mm in height. The wheelbase has been extended to 3,094 mm. This makes it 18 mm longer and 20 mm wider than its predecessor, with a 15 mm increase in wheelbase.

In terms of design, the exterior of the sixth-gen E-Class LWB looks familiar to the standard wheelbase version of the same revealed earlier this year. The only noticeable difference is the larger rear doors. Further, the rear quarter glass is placed behind the rear door instead of being integrated into the rear door with the rear window.

Inside the cabin, the layout is carried over from the standard new-gen E-Class, and consists of a long list of features including additions like power reclining rear seats with an ottoman function, a neck heating function, and a ‘Boss’ button for rear seat occupants that liberates additional space by folding down the front passenger seat. Another significant addition is two wireless charging pads in the rear seat armrest.

Other notable features on offer in the sixth-gen E-Class include Mercedes’ new Superscreen featuring three integrated screens— a 12.2-inch digital console, a 14.4-inch infotainment system, and a third screen for the passenger. These screens run on the brand’s latest third-generation MBUX operating system.

2024 Mercedes Benz E-Class: Powertrain specs

Powering the China-spec 2024 Mercedes Benz E-Class LWB is a six-cylinder petrol engine which may not make it to the Indian shores. The Indian market instead is expected to get both petrol and diesel engine options, in four-cylinder configurations, with the upcoming E-Class. The E-Class LWB has air suspension and a rear-wheel steering system allowing a maximum turn of 4.5 degrees of the rear wheels.
