Hyundai is all set to launch the sporty Creta N Line on March 11. Like the rest of the vehicles in the N Line portfolio, the SUV will only be available with a turbo petrol engine. The Creta N Line is powered by the 1.5-litre turbo with an output of 158bhp and 253Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Before its official launch, we take a look at what are other turbo petrol-powered SUVs available in this segment. 

Hyundai Creta N Line alternatives: Mahindra Scorpio N

Based on January 2024’s sales figures, the Mahindra Scorpio (including the numbers is in pole position as it is the best-selling midsize SUV segment. It is also the only true blue SUV in this list as it is based on a ladder frame chassis. The Scorpio N gets a 2-litre turbo petrol mStallion engine which produces 200 bhp. It is available in two transmissions — the 6-speed manual churns out 370 Nm and the 6-speed torque converter automatic has 380 Nm.

The Scorpion N gets all the latest features like an 8-inch touchscreen display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch instrument cluster, a 12-speak Sony music system, connected functions with inbuilt Alexa, etc. It is also one of the safest vehicles in the market as it received a 5-star rating from Global NCAP. The Mahindra SUV is packed with six airbags, hill hold control and hill descent control, ABS and EBD, tyre pressure monitor and rear and front parking sensors. The Scorpio N is also the only vehicle in this list that comes with a three-row seating area.

Hyundai Creta N Line alternatives: Kia Seltos

As expected, the Seltos turbo has identical specs to its Korean sibling the Creta N Line. It also has a 1.5-litre turbo petrol under the hood with 158 bhp and 253 Nm of output. Unlike the N Line which comes with a manual gearbox, the Seltos gets a clutchless stick shift. Both the Creta and the Seltos offer the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The cabin feels lush and the dashboard sports a dual 10.25-inch screen for the infotainment system and the driver’s console, dual-zone climate control, front ventilated seats, an 8-inch heads-up display and 8 8-speaker Bose music system. Both the Creta N Line and the Seltos are equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite with 17 autonomous features, six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill-start assist control, tyre pressure monitor and a 360-degree camera with blind spot detector.

Hyundai Creta N Line alternatives: Skoda Kushaq / Volkswagen Taigun

The twins from the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, the Kushaq and Taigun, are based on the same MQB A0 IN platform and are the safest SUVs in their class. Apart from receiving a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP, both SUVs also scored 5 stars for both adult and child protection. The Kushaq and the Taigun are the only SUVs which offer two turbo petrol engines, a 1-litre and a 1.5-litre. The former has an output of 114 bhp and 178 Nm and its mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

The 1.5-litre TSI produces 148 bhp and 250 Nm is paired to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The 1-litre version gets an 8-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a wireless phone charger, the top models get an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 6-speak music system. The top model gets a bigger 10-inch touchscreen and both versions don’t come with ADAS. In terms of safety, both the 1-litre and 1.5-litre trims come standard with 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitor, traction control and the usual features.

The MG Astor’s turbo petrol version is available only in the top-of-the-line variant and is powered by a 1.3-litre output of 138 bhp and 220 Nm. It is mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The 10.1-inch infotainment system has wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice command, navigation system, a wireless phone charger, ventilated seats and a 7-inch instrument cluster.

MG Astor

It is the first SUV in its segment to come with Level 2 ADAS along with 6 airbags, ABS and EBD, ESP, traction control system, hill hold control and hill descent control and emergency stop signal.
