Honda BR-V, that made its debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, will finally be launched in India on May 5, 2016. India’s first 7-seater compact SUV will rival products like Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano upon its launch. Built on the same extended Brio platform that underpins the Mobilio, the Honda BR-V will share several of its components and engines with the former.
Now that the launch is just around the corner, here’s what we expect from Honda’s first ever compact SUV
Honda BR-V Price
In a recent media interaction, Honda Cars India made it very clear that the BR-V will be priced quite ‘aggressively’. And they surely can achieve competitive pricing due to highly localised platform, components and powertrains. The company will basically use the same platform and engines that are doing duty in other existing Honda cars in India.
Though no official words on its exact pricing, we expect it to be priced between Rs 8 lakh – Rs 12 lakh. At this price, the Honda BRV will under cut all of its rivals including the Renault Duster which currently is the most affordable vehicle in its category (Above 4 metres compact SUVs).
Honda BR-V Specifications
Besides the platform, the Honda BR-V will also share its engines – 1.5-litre i-VTEC & 1.5-litre i-DTEC – with the Mobilio. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol produces 117bhp and 145Nm, while the 1.5-litre i-DTEC develops 99bhp and 200Nm.
1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol – 117bhp, 145Nm
1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel – 99bhp, 200Nm
Honda BR-V Mileage
Similar to the Mobilio, the Honda BR-V will also be a highly frugal vehicle. While the Mobilio petrol is expected to return around 17kmpl, the diesel could return close to 24kmpl.
