Recently, Ford patented a few models for India which included the Mustang Mach-e and the Endeavour, and now, the latter has been spotted in Chennai at the back of a flatbed, hinting that Ford could launch the SUV in India sooner than expected.
The model spotted was a Ford Everest (Sold as Endeavour in India) Trend, an entry-level model sold in select countries like Thailand and Australia. This is the same model that Folr filed patents for in India.
Ford will use its Chennai plant to assemble the new Endeavour in India, as the plant was manufacturing the previous-gen SUV. The plant will need a few updates to assemble the new SUV, but that is a small task when compared to setting up a factory by itself.
Globally, the Ford Everest is powered by 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre diesel engines, and Ford is expected to bring the same here. The SUV will have 4X2 and 4X4 options as before and when launched, will compete with the Toyota Fortuner, a popular SUV in the segment.
