Just when you thought things could not get any worse, CCTV caught a road rage incident involving a police officer in Lucknow. The sad part is that the man in uniform slapped an Army officer in front of his wife and daughter when he questioned the police officer for driving on the wrong side of the road.
According to the News18, Colonel Anand Prakash Suman filed an FIR against the inspector who was assaulted. Colonel Suman stated that the police officer had slapped him in front of his wife and daughter.
Inspector assaults Colonel for exposing wrong-side driving
During rush hour, a CCTV video captured an SUV driver, later identified as Inspector Vinay Kumar Saroj, driving on the wrong side of the road in Lucknow, causing traffic chaos. Several two-wheelers followed, worsening the situation. A family in a hatchback stopped next to the SUV and questioned the driver’s actions. The SUV driver rolled down his window, argued briefly, then stepped out and slapped the hatchback’s passenger, Army Colonel Anand Prakash Suman, without provocation. The footage revealed the assailant was in a police uniform, sparking outrage
According to NDTV, Colonel Suman said that while he was trying to stop the other man from driving away, “He tried to crush me between his car and my car. He then ran over my left leg and fled the scene.” Based on the report, Inspector Vinay Kumar Saroj has been identified as the accused in the assault on an Army Colonel. The police report that Saroj is currently absconding, with his mobile phone switched off. “A case has been filed based on the Colonel’s complaint, and we are investigating CCTV footage. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” stated Nipun Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Lucknow.
Social media explodes: Ex-officials demand justice
The video has gone viral on social media, and the netizens have reacted with fury, dismay and anger. Speaking to Times Now, Dr Vikram Singh, Former DGP UP, said, “My advice to the Lucknow Police Commissioner is this: locate him—wherever he is. It is entirely possible. This should be done within the next 24 hours.”
Major General Dr Yash Mor (Retd.), Defence Analyst, said, “This incident is only in the spotlight because it involved an army officer. If it had been an ordinary citizen, it would have gone unnoticed.”
