TVS Apache RTR 160 2V rivals the old classic Bajaj Pulsar 150 and Honda Unicorn whereas the Apache RTR 180 remains largely unrivalled.

Updated TVS Apache RTR 160 2V and RTR 180 launch on cards

TVS recently celebrated 20 years of the Apache series of motorcycles by launching the updated RTR 200 4V. It seems TVS is preparing to update another set of Apache motorcycles soon. The company has shared a new teaser on its social media handle hinting at a possible launch of updated iterations of the oldest Apache models — RTR 160 2V and RTR 180.

TVS Apache RTR 160 2V, 180 2V: Expected changes

The short clip would suggest refreshed styling for the naked roadsters but it’s very difficult to deduce any precise change. The clip shares glimpses of the glowing twin LED DRLs integrated within the headlamp cluster which looks similar to the current model. When it comes to looks, the only other changes we can predict as of now are the addition of new colour schemes and some new body graphics.

We expect TVS to equip the updated Apache RTR 160 2V and RTR 180 2V with a fully-digital instrument console which is more advanced than the current unit. It could receive a coloured TFT unit that comes with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation via TVS’ SmartXonnect application. Addition of ride modes seem unlikely but possible. We also expect TVS to upgrade both Apache models with disc brakes and dual-channel ABS as standard.

Even though the RTR 160 4V was upgraded with upside-down front forks in December last year, we don’t expect TVS to offer the same in the 2-valve versions of the 160cc and 180cc Apache since it would shoot the price of these bikes drastically.

TVS Apache RTR 160 2V, 180 2V: Other expected details

Mechanically, both Apache bikes — RTR 160 2V and RTR 180 2V —- are likely to remain unchanged. The former will be powered by a 160cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which delivers 16 bhp at 8,750rpm and peak torque of 13.85 Nm at 7,000rpm. On the other hand, the Apache RTR 180 gets a 177cc mill that produces 17 bhp at 9,000rpm and a peak torque of 15.5Nm at 7,000rpm. Both these motors will be paired with a 5-speed gearbox and updated with OBD2B emission standards.

Currently, pricing for TVS Apache RTR 160 2V ranges between Rs 1.21 lakh and Rs 1.31 lakh, whereas Apache RTR 180 is available in a single variant priced at Rs 1.35 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). Expect a price hike of around Rs 5,000-7,000 on both bikes.
