It recently came to light that TVS is working on a more affordable electric scooter that will be slotted below the iQube range of e-scooters. Expected for a market launch around the festive season later this year, this battery-powered scooter has now been spotted testing for the first time.
The latest spy image shows a test mule completely wrapped under a camouflage which makes it difficult for us to deduce any specific details regarding the upcoming scooter’s design. However, the spy image indicates that visually the upcoming affordable electric scooter will be very different from the iQube.
TVS affordable e-scooter spotted
Some visual highlights that can be seen in the latest spy shot are a single-piece stepped-up saddle, a single-piece pillion grab rail, and a minimalist bodywork. There are no massive changes which suggest that TVs will likely keep the developmental cost of this e-scooter at a minimum. This prototype seen in the image suggests it is a pre-production unit since the headlamp cowl is missing.
Specific details about the upcoming TVS electric scooter are limited at this time. However, it is expected to feature a basic hub-mounted electric motor, similar to the one used in the entry-level iQube variants, sourced from Bosch. This setup will help keep costs under control. The scooter is likely to offer a range of around 70–75 km, making it suitable for short daily commutes.
The current TVS iQube range starts at Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant equipped with a 2.2 kWh battery, and goes up to nearly Rs 2 lakh for the top-end ST trim, which features a 5.1 kWh battery. The upcoming electric scooter is expected to be priced below Rs 1 lakh, featuring more basic components, fewer features, and likely a smaller battery pack.
