June 2024 scooter sales saw a healthy double-digit growth compared to motorcycle sales. The overall domestic sales of scooters are encouraging, although motorcycles still sell in larger numbers. Yamaha
Taking fifth place in June 2024 scooter sales is Yamaha, having sold 26,031 units last month compared to 23,013 units sold in June 2023, registering a YoY growth of 13.1 percent. For Yamaha, motorcycles outsold scooter sales last month, but it has seen a YoY decline compared to June 2023.
Hero MotoCorp
Hero MotoCorp is the leader when it comes to two-wheeler sales and motorcycle sales, however, in the scooter segment, the company has to settle for fourth. In June 2024, Hero sold 28,871 units compared to 29,708 in June 2023, witnessing a YoY decline of 2.8 percent. In the motorcycle segment, Hero MotoCorp witnessed a 17.6 percent growth.
Suzuki
Suzuki has consistently managed to stay ahead of Royal Enfield in the last few months in terms of domestic two-wheeler sales, however, scooters account for the majority of Suzuki’s sales in India. In June 2024, Suzuki sold 69,853 units, witnessing a YoY growth of 16.6 percent. Suzuki sold 59,872 scooters in India in June 2023.
TVS
Hosur-based TVS takes second place for domestic scooter sales, registering sales of 1,23,912 units in June 2024. TVS’ sales in June 2023 were 1,14,059 units, which means a YoY growth of 8.6 percent. For TVS, the ntorq and the Jupiter are two of the best-selling scooter models in India.
Honda
Honda leads when it comes to scooter sales in the domestic market. The Japanese manufacturer’s Activa has been the segment leader since its launch many years ago. In June 2024, Honda sold 2,65,960 scooters in India in June 2024 compared to selling 1,40,019 units in June 2023, witnessing almost 90 percent YoY growth.
