KTM launched the updated 390 Adventure range in India earlier this year and just when a lot started to think that the 390 Adventure X makes a sensible choice, KTM dealers dropped a bomb, saying the motorcycle will be discontinued. And then came more clarity with what was happening — an update.
As per other reports, and our own, we expected the new KTM 390 Adventure X to carry a ‘Plus’ suffix; however, that’s not the case. It will be called 390 Adventure X, the same as before, but it gets a few crucial updates and retains a lot of goodies.
Updated KTM 390 Adventure X — What’s new and what’s not?
Let’s dive straight into what’s new on the updated 390 Adventure X. The motorcycle now gets an IMU, which means it gets cornering ABS and cornering traction control, similar to the top-of-the-line KTM 390 Adventure.
The motorcycle also gets cruise control now, making it a more sensible machine for those who prefer touring on it. This means an updated switchgear as seen on the KTM 390 Adventure and the 390 Duke, while the motorcycle also gets ride modes: Street, Rain, and Off-Road.
With the updates out of the way, let’s look at what has not changed. The design remains the same, identical to the range-topping 390 Adventure, while the colour options also remain the same, along with the graphics. Also retained are the cycling parts — non-adjustable USD forks, a monoshock at the rear, a 19-17 wheel setup with alloy wheels, LED lighting, and a TFT instrument console with phone connectivity.
The engine also remains unchanged, and the updated 390 Adventure X is powered by the same 398.63cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 45bhp and 39Nm of torque with the help of a 6-speed manual gearbox. There are no details on a quickshifter, but the addition would make sense.
That said, the updated KTM 390 Adventure X is expected to carry a bump in price as well – Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,00 – over the model it replaces. The hike in price also separates the three adventure models – 250 Adventure, 390 Adventure X, and 390 Adventure – evenly, giving customers a better clarity in choice.
