Hero MotoCorp is gearing up to launch a new flagship motorcycle which will be based on Harley Davidson X440. Until now, there was conjecture as to what this bike will be called whether Hurikan or Mavrick, since both names have been trademarked by Hero.

The homegrown bikemaker has now officially confirmed that its upcoming 440cc will be named Mavrick. Hero has released a teaser of the same on its social media handles revealing its name as well as the launch date. Hero’s version of the X440 is slated to make its debut on 23 January.

For the uninitiated, Hero has co-developed the neo-retro roadster alongside the iconic American brand and manufactures the same in India. Besides a series of short teaser videos from Hero MotoCorp, the upcoming motorcycle was spotted testing ahead of its launch later this month. Spy shots of the same have gone viral over the last couple of days.

The latest set of spy pics confirm that Hero Maverick will carry its own unique identity and not the same design as its American cousin. That said, like Harley, the Mavrick 440 will also flaunt a neo-retro design with highlights like a circular headlamp, and a rounded fuel tank, visible in the latest spy image.

Other visual highlights confirmed in the latest spy pic are an H-shaped LED DRL inside the headlamp cluster, alloy wheels, an engine sump guard, and a side-slung exhaust muffler. The image also confirms a comfortable and neutral riding posture courtesy of a flat handlebar which is pulled inwards and slightly forward-set footpegs.

Hero Mavrick 440 expected specs & features

Underpinnings and powertrain in Mavrick 440 will be borrowed from Harley Davidson X440. The bike will sit on a suspension setup comprising 43mm KYB USD telescopic front forks and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Braking duties will be carried out by 320mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes aided by a dual-channel ABS. We also expect Hero to offer features like TFT instrument panel, Bluetooth connectivity, location alerts, etc.

Powering Mavrick 440 is a 440cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled, two-valve, SOHC engine that will push out 27 bhp and 38 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. Upon launch, Hero Mavrick will compete against the likes of Triumph Speed 400, Royal Enfield Classic 350, Hunter 350 and its own cousin Harley Davidson V440.
