Hero MotoCorp is reportedly launching a new two-wheeler later this month. There is no clarity yet on the model to be launched but reports claim the upcoming Hero model will be a new motorcycle based on the Harley Davidson X440. The company has also shared invites for the same to various media outlets.
For the uninitiated, the iconic American brand joined hands with Hero MotoCorp after the former quit India operations back in September 2020. The first model under this joint venture– Harley Davidson X440– co-developed and manufactured by Hero in India, was launched in India in July 2023.
Hero’s version of HD X440: Hurikan 440?
Now, the largest Indian bikemaker plans to launch a new 440cc motorcycle based on the X440. Last October, we reported that Hero MotoCorp has filed a new trademark for the name “Hurikan 440” which is most likely to be based on the Harley Davidson X440. There are no confirmed sightings of test mules of this bike, but we expect most of its elements to be borrowed from the X440.
We expect Hero to offer the upcoming bike a neo-retro design targeting buyers looking for an entry-level middleweight retro motorcycle. This includes round headlamps, a flat handlebar, a sculpted fuel, a single-piece saddle, and short front and rear fenders.
In case of powertrain, the upcoming Hero motorcycle will be powered by the same 440cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled, two-valve, SOHC engine that powers the X440. This motor kicks out 27 bhp and 38 Nm of peak torque and it is expected to carry the same tune as its existing application. The engine will be paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
Cycle parts will include a suspension setup comprising 43mm KYB USD telescopic front forks and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Braking duties will be carried out by 320mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes aided by a dual-channel ABS. We also expect Hero to offer features like TFT instrument panel, Bluetooth connectivity, location alerts, etc. with the upcoming middleweight roadster.
Prices for the X440 start at Rs 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom). Hero is likely to offer its iteration of the X440 with a slightly more aggressive price tag around Rs 2.10-2.20 lakh (ex-showroom). More details about the same are expected to come out as the launch comes closer.
