Japanese motorcycle maker Kawasaki has launched the 2024 Z650RS in India, priced at rs 6.99 lakh ex-showroom, Rs 7,000 more than last year’s model. The Z650RS is a retro-themed motorcycle that uses the tried and tested 650cc inline twin that powers the Z650 and the Versys 650.

The most notable addition to the new Kawasaki Z650RS is the inclusion of a traction control system, which has two modes. The first allows the rider to be enthusiastic with minimal intervention, while the second mode is the opposite, keeping a close eye on the rider, useful on loose surfaces or in rain.

Apart from the inclusion of the electronic nanny, the Z650RS continues to be built around the trellis frame, featuring a retro-roadster design with a round headlight, sculpted tank, and a comfortable, single-piece seat. The motorcycle continues to get telescopic forks, a monoshock at the rear, disc brakes at both ends, dual-channel ABS, 17-inch wheels, and a twin-pod instrument cluster with an LCD screen.

Power is derived from a 649cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that makes 68bhp and 64Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. This is the same engine and in the same state of tune as the popular Kawasaki Z650 and the Versys 650.

The new Kawasaki Z650RS is available in a single Ebony Metallic Matte Carbon Gray colour scheme, adding to the retro touch. As for competition, the primary contender in the category is the Triumph Trident 660, which is priced at Rs 8.25 lakh, ex-showroom.
