Banking liquidity at Rs 3 lakh crore, highest in 3 years
The banking system has a surplus of Rs 3 lakh crore due to RBI's liquidity injection and government's spending. This is expected to further increase with phased spending of Rs 2.69 lakh crore and a buyback of government securities worth Rs 25,000 crore. Daily variable rate repo auctions may be discontinued as liquidity is ample. The outcome of the Monetary Policy Committee is awaited.
