Velusamy to head M&M auto business

Mahindra & Mahindra appoints R Velusamy as president of its automotive business in major leadership reshuffle. Veejay Nakra moves to head farm equipment division, while Hemant Sikka becomes MD & CEO of Mahindra Logistics, marking strategic shifts for future growth.

R Velusamy will assume the role of president of the automotive business (AB) at auto major Mahindra & Mahindra following a significant rejig in senior leadership positions across its various business verticals announced on Monday. Velusamy currently serves as president of automotive technology and product development.

Velusamy, who joined the company in 1996, has been instrumental in building world-class powertrains and leading the development and launch of several internal combustion engine (ICE) flagship products as well as Mahindra’s electric vehicle portfolio. He will also continue to report to Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director & CEO (Auto & Farm Sectors), M&M.

Veejay Nakra, currently president of the automotive division, will take over as president of the farm equipment business (FEB) — one of Mahindra’s largest and most profitable verticals, boasting a return on capital employed (ROCE) of over 60%.

Nakra, who joined M&M in 1995, has a strong track record of revitalising the automotive business through successful product launches, world-class manufacturing capabilities, and strategic international expansion. He will report to Rajesh Jejurikar.

Hemant Sikka, currently president of the farm equipment sector (FES), has been appointed managing director and CEO of Mahindra Logistics (MLL), following approval from the MLL board. He will succeed Rampraveen Swaminathan, who is stepping down to pursue other professional opportunities.

The internal appointments are designed to drive the next phase of growth at the conglomerate by placing seasoned leaders at the helm of its high-performing businesses.
