When was the last time you lost your temper due to someone else’s rash and careless driving? Maybe half a bag? There is some good news for all law-abiding citizens, as now Delhi Traffic Police has empowered people like you and me to report traffic violations on the spot with the help of the Delhi Police’s Traffic Prahari app. Apart from doing your civic duty, the authorities are offering cash rewards to the responsible citizens. Top contributors can earn up to Rs 50,000. We answer all the what, when, and how questions.

How to be part of the Traffic Prahari movement?

The Traffic Prahari app was first launched by the Delhi Police way back in 2015. Now, it’s a lot more user-friendly and offers tonnes of new features. The first step is to download the app onto your smartphone. To register, simply type in your mobile phone number, and you’ll receive a one-time password (OTP). Once logged in, users can upload images and videos with timestamp and location information so that the data can be checked for its authenticity.

Anything from jumping the red light, reckless driving, and wrong-side driving to unlawful parking—all this can be shared on the app. Once the report is filed, Delhi Police comb through the information, ensuring there is no personal grievance or fake news reported before issuing the challan.

The Traffic Prahari app is available on Google Play for Android users and the App Store for iPhone owners.

How can you make money and do your civic duty?

Delhi Traffic Police is encouraging the citizens to actively participate in this movement and is offering monthly cash prizes. Based on the number of reports filed by a user, one can earn Rs 50,000 for the first prize, Rs 25,000 for second, Rs 15,000 for third, and Rs 10,000 for fourth place.

This brainchild is DCP Traffic SK Singh’s initiative to involve citizens and weed out traffic violations. This helps in making the streets safer by keeping a vigilant eye on traffic violators.
