The new Volvo XC40 is based on Volvo’s new CMA platform. Thanks to the new platform, the XC40 does not look like a shrink version of the XC60 and XC90. The front end of the SUV gets Thor hammer style headlamps while the rear has vertically stacked tail lamps that look appealing. Overall, the Volvo XC40 looks premium and follows the company’s traditional design language.
Step inside the cabin of the Volvo XC40 and you will feel that the premiumness has not taken a back seat despite XC40 being Volvo’s most affordable SUV offering. The steering wheel and the gear knob come wrapped in high quality leather. You also get Harmon Kardon audio system along with wireless charging facility. The contrasting red highlights inside the cabin makes the Volvo XC40 a really nice place to be in.
Volvo XC40 is offered in India in a single engine option only. The 2.0-litre D4 diesel engine is good for churning out a maximum power of 190 hp while the peak torque output is rated at 400 Nm. A petrol version might be introduced at a later stage.
Gearbox on the new Volvo XC40 is an eight-speed automatic transmission. The smooth operation ensures a perfect driving experience.
Volvo XC40 is the safest SUV in the segment as it comes with multiple radar based drive assist functions. These inlcude blind spot warning, lane keep assist, parking assist and more. The SUV also gets seven airbags that takes safety to a new level.
The Volvo XC40 returns a fuel efficiency of close to 17 kmpl which is quite decent for an SUV of this category.
