After a drama-filled Sprint race on Saturday, the main race on Sunday had more to offer in terms of some fine motorcycle racing. Marquez was the man to look out for, and the Spaniard took the much-needed podium while defending champion Francesco Bagnaia showed why he is the two-time king of the ring with a win at Spain.
Spanish MotoGP: As the lights dropped
Marquez was quick to seize the opportunity after letting the sprint race slip through and made his way to the front, followed by Martin and Bezzecchi. However, an even more impressive ride was by Bagnaia as by the end of lap one, he made his way ahead of Martin and Bezzecchi into second, shortly taking the lead.
However, a costly mistake by Marquez let Martin slip through and in the final corner of lap two, Bagnaia made a mistake, allowing Martin and Marquez through. The defending champion quickly reclaimed the lead by T1.
Spanish MotoGP: The drama and twists
Dry conditions meant there was less drama compared to the sprint race, but there was enough action to keep fans entertained. The first major turning point came on lap 11 when race leader Martin crashed, handing over the lead to Bagnaia. Marquez, however, was right on the Italian’s tail.
Marquez kept his attack but Bagnaia was a force to reckon with. There were clashes, even leaving tyre marks on the Spaniard’s leathers, while the two battled it out for the entire race until Bagnaia proved to better Marquez with his riding.
Augusto Fernandez did not finish the race, while Dani Pedrosa crashed out. Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori was also out, while Aleix Espargaro’s incident managed to get himself and Johann Zarco out of the race.
