The Marquez brothers made the Argentina Grand Prix into their personal backyard race, swapping places at the front. As much as we loved the dog fight between the two, sadly, there can only be one winner and the top honours went to Marc. The surprise package in the race was VR46’s Franco Morbidelli, who took the final podium position, while Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia looked all out of sorts and had to be content with fourth place.
Marc Marquez: Third most successful rider in MotoGP
The dream team of Ducati and Marc Marquez continued to steamroll their competition as they made four out of four wins and not to forget, two pole positions. Both the Marquez brothers got off to a flying start, but Marc made an early mistake in Lap 4 and gifted the lead to Alex. Credit to the Gresini rider as he managed to hold the lead to Lap 22, and then it was the Marc Marquez show as he extended his lead over a second. After winning the grand prix, Marc said, “Alex will win some races this year, more than one.” He added, “Alex is the main opponent for the championship.”
The win at the Termas de Río Hondo circuit was a historic milestone for Marquez as he equalled Angel Nieto’s record of 90 wins in MotoGP. This win makes the Ducati rider the third most successful rider in the MotoGP history after Giacomo Agostini and Valentino Rossi.
Missing my feeling: Bagnaia
The new season has been a stutter start for Bagnaia while his teammate Marquez has been winning just about everything. The two-time world champion was over 5.5 seconds behind Marquez and could not even compete with Morbidelli who snatched third place. Bagnaia crossed the finish line almost a second behind the VR46 rider. The Italian admitted that he was struggling and complimented Morbidelli for doing a fine job with a soft rear tyre. Without mincing any words, Bagania said, “(he is) missing my feeling.”
The man of the moment was Morbidelli, who took a gamble on a rear soft tyre, which made rich dividends for him. This was the Italian’s first podium since the Spanish Grand Prix in 2021. Starting from eighth place, Morbidelli was in third place on Lap 4 leaving Bagnaia eating dust.
There was some late drama from Fabio Di Giannantonio as he continued to apply pressure on Johann Zarco and grabbed fifth place on the last lap. KTM’s Brad Binder came seventh followed by rookie Ai Ogura, who was later disqualified for running a “non-homologated software”. Due to this Pedro Acosta, Joan Mir and Luca Marini all gain one position.
