Hyundai Creta petrol Automatic One of the newest additions to the list of petrol SUVs is the immensely popular Hyundai Creta, now available with an automatic transmission. Although the Hyundai Creta's diesel engines are well within the permissible limit of 2,000 cc specified in the ban by NGT, the company sensed an increasing demand for a petrol version. The 1.6 L petrol VTVT engine develops 121 hp and 150 Nm of torque and is now paired to a six-speed automatic transmission in addition to an existing 6-speed manual gearbox. The company also claims that the sound insulation for this variant has been improved, translating into a quieter and more comfortable experience for the occupants. The petrol AT version is priced at Rs 12.86 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, making it more than Rs 1.5 lakh cheaper than the diesel automatic version.

Honda BR-V petrol MT/AT Honda recently launched the BR-V as an SUV that many would term as a crossover but in reality is a better-looking MPV. Since sales commenced, the BR-V is available with a petrol engine in addition to a diesel mill. The petrol unit is the same as found in the City but calibrated for the BR-V and is paired to a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT (continuously variable transmission) with 7 steps. The BR-V is also the only petrol seven-seater vehicle in its segment. Petrol variants with a manual transmission start at a price of around Rs 8.9 lakh, while the CVT variant is priced at Rs 12.2 lakh, ex-showroom.

Ford EcoSport Ford's EcoSport has been around for a while now and has already seen the best sales performance of its lifecycle at the time of its launch. With competition growing in number and technology, Ford India recently gave the EcoSport a mild makeover and a massive price-cut right after the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza launch. The EcoSport petrol is available in two engine options – a 1.5 L Ti-VCT engine developing 110 hp and a 1.0 L EcoBoost engine developing 124 hp. The 1.5 L engine is offered with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the smaller EcoBoost engine is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. Prices for the EcoSport with a manual gearbox start at Rs 6.9 lakh, ex-showroom while the AT-equipped version starts at a price-point of around Rs 9.9 lakh, ex-showroom. The 1.0 L EcoBoost variant can be bought for a base price of Rs 8.45 lakh, ex-showroom.

Renault Duster/ Nissan Terrano Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano, which is based on the same platform as the Duster have been on sale with petrol variants since they went on sale. While the petrol variants didn't turn out to be stars of the lineup, they might be noticed more keenly by potential buyers now. Both the Duster and Terrano sport the same engine, a 1.6 L petrol engine, developing 102 hp and 145 Nm of torque. Both vehicles are offered only with a 5-speed manual transmission. Nissan Terrano is priced at a premium, with prices starting at Rs 10.15 lakh, ex-showroom, while the Renault Duster price starts at Rs 8.7 lakh and tops off at Rs 9.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
