Car designer Dilip Chhabria arrested in connection with an alleged cheating and forgery case, stated Mumbai Police just yesterday, as reported by ANI. As an automobile website, we're not here to talk about this, but to take a look back at some of his work which is the sole reason behind his popularity. So, besides the driverless car featured in a Bollywood film called Tarzan some years ago, Chhabria has some very interesting custom car design signed to his name, and the latest one of them was going to be an electric Ambassador.

Toyota Fortuner: The Fortuner perhaps allows a lot of room to play with on the inside and out, owing to its sheer size. DC Design transformed its exterior into a more stealthy and premium SUV, with smaller headlamps and hexagonal grille. On the inside too, it sports a new layout with several comfort and convenience features.

Toyota Innova: Not just cosmetic upgrades on the outside, but DC Design also is known for transforming the interior into lounge like seating area, and the Innova was given such a treatment. On the outside DC added plastic cladding around the body and large split air dams on the lower bumper that make it appear more butch. The interior has wood that gives a touch of premium appeal and there are a bunch of other tech goodies.

Renault Duster: There seems to be some similarity in the styling philosophy used for the EcoSport, Fortuner and the Duster, on which the headlamps have been repositioned at the bumper and the grille has been replaced with a sleeker one. The all black matte paint job and LEDs add to sturdy appeal.

While the three customised cars above are rather a job very well done, DC has had some whack jobs on his CV as well. For eg, this very Mahindra Thar. We never said that the top 5 will be the top 5 good lookers. This custom job has just way too much going on for it, making it look downright cluttered and ill-planned.

Meet e-Amby, an all-electric Ambassador rendered by DC Design. For now, the e-Amby is in its concept stage but DC2 will produce it if there is enough interest from the customers (however, now that Chhabria isn't exactly actively designing cars, e-Amby's future is uncertain at the moment). Considering an all-electric powertrain and a modern design, we reckon the e-Amby will not be a very affordable deal. The new e-Amby is quite like the hot-rod Amby concept, developed by DC about a decade ago, which was also showcased at the 2008 Auto Expo.
