The electric vehicle market is an interesting segment with new vehicles and out-of-the-box ideas. However, when it comes to building an EV that can go off-road, why build from scratch when there are plenty to choose from to use? That’s what Czech start-up MW Motors has done with the Gurkha, converting it to an all-electric vehicle and retaining its capabilities.

Meet Spartan 2.0 — the all-electric SUV made by MW Motors, based on the Gurkha three-door version. Here’s all you need to know about the new MW Motors Spartan 2.0 electric SUV.

MW Motors Spartan 2.0 EV: Platform and design

The company uses the Gurkh’s underpinnings as is, retaining the ladder frame chassis, suspension, cabin, and interior. The overall design is also retained, however, a few changes are evident. The first is the grille, as the Spartan gets a completely blocked-out unit.

The Spartan 2.0 weighs 2,350kg and has a payload capacity of 1,025kg while its towing capacity is rated at 3,000kg. Here are the detailed dimensions of the Gurkha-based Spartan.

Wheelbase:2,400mm
Length:4,116mm
Width:1,812mm
Height:2,075mm
Ground clearance:200+mm
Wading depth:700+mm
Curb weight:2,350kg

MW Motors Spartan 2.0 EV: Battery specifications

The Spartan uses a 57.4kWh battery pack under the bonnet, sourced from a company in China. The motor and other components needed to run the vehicle are made by MW Motors itself. The Spartan has a claimed range of approximately 250km, while the battery pack and motor combined develop 173bhp and 1,075Nm of torque.

The Spartan retains the four-wheel-drive system from the Gurkha, along with the manual diff locks for the front and rear, along with hill descent control. The Battery pack can charge from 0 to 80 percent in just over half an hour, and other external devices can be powered by the vehicle.

MW Motors Spartan 2.0 EV: Interior and features

Similar to the Jimny three-door version, the Spartan can be sold only as a commercial vehicle in select markets globally. The vehicle features two seats in the front covered in fabric, and most of the interior is similar to the Gurkha itself.

The Spartan gets a touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. Other features include power windows, adjustable seats, a two-way adjustable steering wheel, air conditioning, and more.

As for the Spartan being available in India, there is no confirmation yet, however, since this is an electric version of the Gurkha, the carmaker could bring it to India if the need arises.
