Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled the Vision e-Sky BEV Concept ahead of its debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 on October 30. While the concept offers the world a first look at the company’s vision for an affordable and compact future electric vehicle, many in India have wondered whether this platform previews the next-gen Wagon-R EV.
With the launch of the e Vitara in India expected by the end of 2025, industry analysts hint at Maruti Suzuki considering launching more affordable electric vehicles to slowly and steadily capture the EV market. With rivals like Tata Motors and MG already selling entry-level electric hatchbacks in India, Maruti’s next EV could be positioned to target the entry-level segment. The e-Sky BEV concept could give us a preview of what to expect.
Is Suzuki e-Sky BEV concept the future Wagon-R EV?
The Vision e-Sky is a born-EV concept with a familiar tall-boy styling, suggesting excellent headroom for occupants — a hallmark of the Wagon-R. It features a flat nose and tail with short overhangs, maximizing interior space within its compact footprint.
Dimensionally, the concept is sized competitively – it measures 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width, and 1,625mm in height. While it is taller than the current Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, its length and width are slightly smaller, aligning it perfectly with the Japanese Kei car regulations while hinting at a highly localized compact EV for the Indian market.
Styling highlights include a futuristic fascia with a multi-array LED light bar, C-shaped DRLs, and aero-friendly wheels. The exterior features a modern two-tone colour scheme with a contrasting white roof and a visually ‘floating’ chunky C-pillar.
Minimal yet futuristic interiors
The interior of the Vision e-Sky is centered around a wraparound design and features a squircle-shaped steering wheel with integrated multi-function controls. Drivers get information via dual digital screens. The dashboard features a floating design, and the drive selector is conveniently positioned below the main console – a throwback to the Maruti Ritz’s dash-mounted gear stick.
Since it is an EV for future, you see ambient LED light strips across.
Will this launch as the electric Wagon-R?
While technical specifications remain scarce, Suzuki has confirmed that the Vision e-Sky BEV concept offers a claimed range of over 270km, which should be enough for city driving needs.
The production version of the concept is poised for a global launch in the Financial Year 2026. For India, this concept strongly previews a heavily localised, low-cost electric hatchback being developed by Maruti Suzuki to tackle the Tiago EV and MG Comet EV.
