Nissan has taken the covers of the new sixth-generation Micra. The twist in the plot is that this is the first all-electric Micra since its inception 40 years ago. Based on the Renault 5 Tech, the new Micra EV is designed for European customers and will make its official debut later this year.

“In designing the sixth generation of the Micra, we’ve celebrated all the values that have historically made it so popular – and opened a new chapter for Micra as an EV. The exterior has an audacious and playful appearance on first look but has a stance which gives it a solid presence on the road. We’ve also been able to integrate delightful details into the design, which owners will love. We’re proud to have been able to bring the Micra into the EV age,” said Giovanny Arroba, Vice President, of Nissan.

Nissan Micra EV: Specifications

The first-ever Micra EV will be available with two battery options, 40 kWh and 52 kWh. Starting from the more powerful 52 kWh battery, it has an output of 110 kW (147.5 bhp) with 245 Nm of torque and weighs 1524 km. According to Nissan, the 52 kWh version offers a range of 408 km on a single charge.

The 40 kWh model, on the other hand, produces 90 kW (120 bhp) with 225 Nm of torque. The Japanese car maker says the entry-level model returns a range of 308 km and weighs 1400 kg.

Nissan has revealed that with a 100kW DC charger or 80kw on the 40kWh version, it quick charges from 15% to 80% within 30 minutes. To maximise the charging efficiency, a heat pump is standard on both battery options, as well as battery heating and cooling capability.

To help provide even more benefits from going fully electric, the new Micra will be equipped with V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology on both battery versions, giving owners the option to use the electrical capacity in the battery to power external devices.

Will Nissan bring Micra EV to India?

Nissan has announced that the all-new, fully electric Micra EV will launch in the European market later this year. Now the million Dollar question is that will the Japanese carmaker introduce the EV hatchback in India? With the Indian government pushing for widespread electric vehicle adoption, the Micra EV could be a game-changer for Nissan India’s portfolio. Despite its potential, the company has yet to confirm any plans for launching the all-electric hatchback in the Indian market.
