The global alliance between Toyota and Suzuki has benefited both automakers, but the former has reaped more benefits in the Indian market primarily due to the latter’s larger market share and better brand value. As a result, Toyota has managed to drive in some significant sales over the past couple of years courtesy of rebadged Maruti models.

With Toyota already reaping benefits from Glanza, a rebadged Maruti Baleno, the company will soon launch a re-engineered version of Fronx, a crossover based on Maruti’s premium hatch. As per our earlier reports, the upcoming rebadged Fronx from Toyota is expected to carry the ‘Taisor’ nameplate.

Toyota Taisor: Expected launch timeline

As per a recent report, the upcoming subcompact crossover from Toyota will hit the market within the first quarter of next year. This will mark Toyota’s re-entry into the sub-4 metre SUV/crossover segment after the rebadged Brezza, named Urban Cruiser was discontinued last year.

It should also be pointed out that the upcoming model is expected to be named ‘Urban Cruiser Taisor’ since the trademark application mentions the same.

Toyota Taisor: Expected features

The equipment on offer in Taisor is expected to be identical to that of Fronx which will include creature comforts such as 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a semi-digital instrument console with colour MID at the centre, a heads-up display, wireless phone charger, cruise control, automatic climate control, etc.

Safety package will offer features like up to six airbags, electronic stability program, hill-hold assist, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and ABS with EBD.

Toyota Taisor: Expected engine specs

Like Fronx, the upcoming Toyota Taisor is likely to receive two engine options— a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated Dualjet unit and a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged unit. The former pushes out 89 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque while being paired with either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox.

On the other hand, the turbocharged motor pumps out 99 bhp and 147 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties on this powertrain is carried out exclusively by a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. We also expect Toyota to offer the 1.2-litre unit in CNG guise.
