Toyota India that launched the much-awaited Innova Crysta earlier this month, is planning to bring in the petrol version of the MPV very soon. Addressing the media during the launch of Innova in Mumbai, the company said that it has seen decline in its overall sales due to ban on registration of diesel cars above or with 2000cc engines in the national capital region.

Delhi NCR is one of the largest markets for Toyota and due to the ban it had to stop the sales of both the Innova and Fortuner here. And to compensate that a little, the company might launch the petrol model sooner than expected. The petrol engine could be the same 2.7-litre, four-cylinder, VVT-i motor that does duty in the Indonesian model of the MPV.
Though the company had to stop the sale of Innova in India, it has received good response from other regions. As a matter of fact, the company has received over 15,000 bookings so far for the vehicle within 10 days of its launch. Interestingly, the top-end automatic version contributes over 60 per cent in that. This clearly shows the popularity of the car and the fact that people are ready to pay much higher if the product is good.
For people not in the know, the Innova Crysta is priced between Rs 13.83 lakh – Rs 20.77 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) which makes it pricier than the old model. Waiting period for the vehicle in Mumbai is over two months, though the company might ramp up the production if it sees equal response from all regions.
