Tata Motors has officially revealed the name of the new TGDi turbo petrol engine, which will power the internal combustion engine Curvv. The Indian automobile manufacturer is set to launch the all-electric Curvv on August 7 and the ICE version later in the year.
Tata Motors has officially announced the name of its new TGDi turbo petrol engine, Hyperion. The company is set to unveil the all-electric Curvv on August 7, with the ICE model slated for release later this year. The Hyperion engine made its initial appearance at the Auto Expo in 2023 and will make its world debut with the Curvv.
Tata Curvv 1.2-litre Hyperion: What to expect?
The new Hyperion engine will be a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. This will be the second turbo petrol powertrain from Tata Motors after the 1.2-litre turbo petrol Revotron engine. The Hyperion is an 1198 cc 3-cylinder turbo that produces 123 bhp at 5000 rpm and 225 Nm at 1700-3500 rpm. The current 1.2-litre Revotron engine has an output of 118 bhp and 170 Nm, which gives the Hyperion powertrain an advantage of 5 bhp and 55 Nm. In terms of performance, this is vital because the Curvv is a midsize SUV, bigger than the Nexon.
The Hyperion will be a lightweight engine made of aluminium with a water-cooled variable geometry which is supposed to offer responsive low-end torque. According to Tata Motors, the engine is designed to be quiet and more refined than the Revotron motor.
The Curvv is expected to be available in two transmission options — a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Tata Curvv: Other engine options
The Curvv is expected to be available in two more engine options — the 1.2-litre turbo Revotron and the 1.5-litre diesel. Both are borrowed from the Nexon. Tata Motors will offer the Curvv in three versions — petrol, diesel and EV. The EV will be launched on August 7 and will go up against the MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV400 and soon to be launched the Hyundai Creta EV. The ICE version will take on the Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
