Renault has released teaser images of the upcoming 5 E-Tech electric car. A concept prototype of the same was first revealed in 2021. The recent teaser images reveal a few significant details regarding the upcoming electric car from the French carmaker including its design and expected launch timeline.

According to a release shared by Renault, the upcoming 5 E-Tech EV is slated for a global premiere on 26 February, 2024 at the Geneva International Motor Show. The French carmaker has also revealed a few key specs of the upcoming 5 E-Tech.

Renault 5 E-Tech: Design

The cropped up teaser images highlight parts of the production-spec model of the electric hatchback. The first image shows the car’s unique LED headlights, which resemble the pupil of the human eye.  This nod to the 1972 advert featuring “The Adventures of Supercar” gives the modern-day R5 a human-like expression.

The next visual highlight is a charge indicator light on the bonnet which comes in place of the traditional air intake present on the R5. When fully charged this indicator glows up to form the digit 5. The next highlight are the wheel arches which gives the car a broader stance despite its compact dimensions.

The last unique highlight is a vertical LED taillight that runs along the C-pillar. This attribute contributes to the aerodynamic performance of R5 by preventing air turbulence. Renault states that the 5 E-Tech measures 3.92 metres long.

Renault 5 E-Tech: Specs & features

The French carmaker has revealed that the 5 E-Tech will be equipped with a 52 kWh battery that could offer a range up to  248 miles (397 km) on a full charge according to WLTP testing protocol. Further, the  5 E-Tech is the first car to be based on the new AmpR Small platform, formerly known as CMF-B EV platform.

Renault claims that the 5 E-Tech will be loaded with highly advanced technologies including  Reno, Renault’s official avatar which is  next-generation humanised co-driver. Equipped with a bi-directional onboard charger, Renault 5 E-Tech electric will be the brand’s first production vehicle to feature V2G (vehicle-to-grid) technology.

Supported by Mobilize, V2G technology allows the 5 E-Tech to supply energy to the grid. This technology will allow drivers to save money on charging and cut their overall electricity bill, by selling electricity back to the grid.
