Nissan, the Japanese carmaker, today teased the front-fascia of the production-ready Kicks compact SUV. Scheduled to make its debut at the Rio 2016 Olympics’ inaugural event, the Nissan Kicks will be the official car of the event. It will escort the torch relay convoy across 300 Brazilian cities for the next three months.

While the vehicle will first be launched in South America towards the end of 2016, it is expected to come to India in 2017. The Nissan Kicks is based on Kicks Concept that had made its debut at the 2014 Sao Paulo Motor Show. The concept was designed with joint efforts of Nissan Design America Sand Diego and Nissan’s Brazil-based design studio satellite under watch of Global Design Center Nissan, Japan.

The Brazil-bound Nissan Kicks model could get a 1.6-litre flex-fuel (petrol/ethanol) engine, the Indian model could come with two engine options – a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.6-litre petrol. The new compact SUV from Nissan might be based on the Micra platform on which the Sunny too is built. While it’s certain that the vehicle will come to India, there is no clarity yet if it will be under 4 metres in length or above that.
