The launch of any Mercedes-Benz is an event – one that celebrates technological prowess, automotive history, and ultra-luxurious interiors. But one detail often gets overlooked – the body colour. After all, a Mercedes-Benz in black is as luxurious as the one in white, or grey, or red, or silver.

Or is it?

Last week, while driving the E-Class in a new shade called Verde Silver Metallic, I realised it isn’t just another shade, but a statement, a subtle yet striking departure from the conventional, and it begs the question: does a colour truly make a difference in a car of this calibre?

It actually does.

The E-Class is so popular in India that it has all but stopped getting second glances – but the E-Class in this new shade is different. It’s a flashy, attention-grabbing colour, and also the one that invites you to closely inspect it. At first glance, it appears to be a sophisticated, deep shade of silver with a hint of green. But take the car in bright sunlight, and a verdant green emerges from within the metallic colour. The finish is lustrous, and adds to the E-Class’s sculpted lines.

Why is colour important?

Traditional colours such as black, white, silver, and grey are timeless, but they easily blend into the urban environment, but shades like the Verde Silver Metallic can elevate the appeal of a luxury car – making it a bit more aspirational, and giving it individuality without ostentation.

It was launched to celebrate the one-year milestone of the E-Class LWB, and is available across the entire E-Class LWB variant line-up: the E200, E220d, and the top-tier E450 4Matic AMG Line. Post the GST 2.0 reforms, the E-Class is now Rs 6 lakh cheaper, and the prices are: E200 (Rs 78.5 lakh), E220d (Rs 80.5 lakh), and the E450 (Rs 91.7 lakh).
