Mahindra has been testing the 5-door version of Thar for over two years now and has been spied on numerous occasions. The homegrown manufacturer recently unveiled the official name of the vehicle as “Thar Roxx” and shared a glimpse of the 5-door version of the off-roader via its latest teaser and advertising campaign on the internet and television.

Now, images from its TV commercial shoot have been leaked online which give clear details of the interior and exterior of Thar Roxx. Slated to be launched on 15th August, Thar Roxx will have several differences over the existing 3-door model both in terms of visuals and functionality.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: Exterior

The overall exterior design of the Roxx is reminiscent of its 3-door sibling and to some extent the Jeep Wrangler— its distant cousin. The latest set of spy images from the TVC shoot reveal that the Thar Roxx gets a different set of alloy wheels that look a bit more premium than the all-black alloys seen in the regular Thar. From the teasers and previous spy shots it is clear that Thar Roxx gets a brand new front fascia as the iconic seven vertical slats are thicker and a lot more prominent.

The circular headlamps are now larger and LED units with an integrated round LED DRL. The rectangular taillamps are also LED units now with integrated C-shaped LED elements. Two additional doors mean longer length and wheelbase and the rear door handles have been moved to the C-pillar. Rest of the details like a boxy silhouette with a flat roofline and tall pillars, and a side-hinged tailgate with a mounted spare wheel.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: Interiors & Features

In another spy image, the interiors, particularly the dashboard and the front cockpit, are clearly visible.  The spruced-up cabin gets a dual-tone black and off-white interior scheme while the dashboard wears a different look with a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

In terms of features, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch driver’s instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, and a 360-degree camera. Mahindra will up the bar in safety as the Thar will come equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite, which is available in 3X0 and XUV700. It will also get six airbags as standard, parking sensors, a rear parking camera etc. Recent teasers have revealed that the Thar Roxx will get a panoramic sunroof for the top-spec variant whereas the mid-spec variant will get a single-pane sunroof.

Mahindra Thar Roxx: Powertrain specs

The upcoming five-door Thar Roxx will inherit the same trio of engines from its three-door counterpart, comprising a 1.5-litre diesel, 2.2-litre diesel, and 2-litre petrol unit. The entry-level Thar Roxx will feature the 1.5-litre diesel engine, paired with a rear-wheel-drive powertrain.

Although the engine output may vary from the three-door model, the current specifications include 117 bhp and 300 Nm for the 1.5-litre diesel, 130 bhp and 300 Nm for the 2.2-litre diesel, and 150 bhp and 300 Nm for the petrol engine. All three engines will come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, while the 2.2-litre diesel and 2-litre petrol will also offer a 6-speed automatic torque converter as an option.
