Kia is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the EV4, which will be available as a sedan, a first for the company, and a hatchback. The automobile manufacturer has revealed that the EV4 sedan will first make its debut in Korea in March 2025, but the hatchback will be first available in the European market in the second half of this year.

Kia President and CEO, Ho Sung Song, said, “The EV4 marks a significant step forward in our electrification journey, offering advanced technology and a choice of body styles for drivers seeking a seamless transition to electric mobility.”

Kia EV4: Range and Performance

Based on Kia’s 400V Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV4 is available in two variants — the standard 58.3 kWh and long-range 81.4 kWh battery configurations. Powered by a 150 kW motor mounted on the front axle, the standard does 0 – 100 kmph in 7.4 seconds and the long-range in 7.7 seconds. According to Kia, both have a top speed of 170 kmph.

With a low drag coefficient of just 0.23 Cd, the EV4 claims best in class range of 430 km for the standard and 630 km for the long range. The EV4 hatchback in long-range trim claims a range of 590 km, according to WLTP standards.

It can juice up from 10% to 80% charge in 31 minutes, while EV4 features an 11 kW on-board charger that accepts both single-phase and three-phase inputs.

Kia EV4: Features

The EV4 comes with Kia’s smartphone-based Digital Key 2.02 which provides functions like engine start, and remote-control functions and can be connected to up to 15 devices, including an Apple Watch via the app.

The EV4’s 30-inch wide-screen display connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) has to be the party piece. This consists of 12.3-inch, 5.3-inch and 12.3-inch screens. It also receives remote OTA updates.

Kia EV4: Safety

The EV4 is equipped with Kia’s Highway Driving Assist (HDA 2) technology that includes ADAS. It offers Driver Attention Warning, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist 2, Lane Following Assist 2, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist and Remote Parking Assist Entry. It also comes with a 12-inch head-up display that reads out speed and navigation guidance.

Kia’s Direct Grip Detection System (HOD – Hands On Detection) senses contact between the steering wheel and the driver’s hand area (fingers, one hand, both hands) to determine if they have control of the vehicle, allowing for deactivation of ADAS warnings with a touch on the steering wheel.

The Driving Package F+ (Drive Wise) advanced driver-assistance system detects hazardous situations through a combination of cameras and radars, assisting the driver in safe driving and maneuvering.
